Content Gap Analysis

Definition

Content gap analysis is the process of comparing your website's content against competitors to find topics, keywords, and questions you're missing. The goal is to discover untapped opportunities where you can create new content or improve existing pages to capture traffic your competitors are getting but you aren't. The process involves: identifying your top 3-5 organic competitors (sites ranking for your target keywords), analyzing which keywords they rank for that you don't, categorizing gaps by topic and search intent, prioritizing by search volume and business relevance, and creating a content plan to fill the most valuable gaps. Tools can help automate this, but manual analysis is also effective — search your target keywords and study what competitors cover that you don't. Content gaps often reveal entire topic clusters you should build out.
