Keyword Stuffing

Definition

Keyword stuffing is the practice of loading a webpage with excessive keywords or numbers in an attempt to manipulate a site's ranking in search results. Google explicitly identifies keyword stuffing as a spam policy violation that can result in ranking penalties or complete removal from search results. Examples include: unnaturally repeating words or phrases, adding keywords that are out of context, inserting blocks of keywords as hidden text, and using irrelevant keywords to attract traffic. Modern search algorithms use natural language processing (NLP) to understand content, making keyword stuffing both ineffective and risky. Focus on writing naturally for your audience instead.
