Long-Tail Keywords

Long-tail keywords are search phrases containing three or more words that are highly specific to what a user is looking for. While they individually have lower search volume than head terms, they collectively account for approximately 70% of all searches. For example, 'SEO' is a head term, while 'free SEO audit tool for small business' is a long-tail keyword. Long-tail keywords are valuable because: they face less competition (easier to rank for), they attract more qualified traffic (higher conversion rates), they better match specific user intent, and they help build topical authority when you cover many related long-tails. A strong SEO strategy targets a mix of head terms and long-tail keywords, using long-tails to build authority that eventually helps you rank for broader terms.
