Backlink

Definition

A backlink (also called an inbound link or incoming link) is a hyperlink from one website to another. Google treats backlinks as votes of confidence — when a reputable site links to your page, it signals that your content is valuable and trustworthy. Not all backlinks are equal: links from high-authority, topically relevant sites carry far more weight than links from low-quality or unrelated sites. Key backlink metrics include Domain Authority/Rating, relevance, anchor text, and follow vs. nofollow status. Building quality backlinks through original research, data, and valuable content remains one of the most effective SEO strategies.
